Buyer Beware of Imported Pool Tables:

When a table is produced overseas, the biggest concern of a foreign manufacturer is how small of a box the product can be shipped in. The primary goal for the foreign manufacturer is to shop as many items in the container as possible, to be cost effective. This is the main reason why all imported tables have so many parts, small bases and why the table needs so many extra stretchers to hold the frame together. The salesperson for the import table will lead you to believe that these stretchers are for slate support, on the contrary, these stretchers are actually holding the table together with small screws! The only way to then assemble the corners is to use small screws and bed frame hardware. Take a look at how much hardware is at the end of each stretcher!

Golden West uses only kiln-dried hardwoods through the National American Lumber Association with United States ecology in mind. The lumber generally used in import tables has not dried properly and has been strip cut from forests with little regard for future forest ecology and other global environmental concerns.

Golden West tables are finished in America's most popular finish colors and uses only ecology approved techniques and finishing products. Import tables use color-finishing chemicals that are outlawed in the United States. These chemicals are domestically illegal because of ecological problems, air pollution, ozone depletion and human health issues. These products are manufactured in factory sweatshops with substandard health conditions. This table is then boxed and shipped in a dark, musty, stagnant-air container where your table then sits for few months while it is being shipped overseas. This is the perfect environment for molds and toxins to form in the untreated woods used to produce the table parts. The Dept. of Agriculture and other import clearing companies do their best to assure the container is free of insects and pests, but this is no guarantee. This table is then delivered to your home, usually in the same packaging as it was shipped in the container. After a time consuming installation, the table is then played on by you, your family and friends........think about it.

Tournament Specifications

All Golden West tables adhere to and exceed the BCA (Billiard Congress of America) specifications for play. Golden West is an active, voting member of the Billiard Congress of America, an organization that sets the rules governing the playability of tournament play today. The playfield and pocket openings of our tables conform to the B.C.A.'s specifications as well as other things you should be aware of. For example, the playability of the table in the form of cushion height, and the angle of the cushion in how it strikes the ball for pure performance, as well as the way in which the rail is anchored to the slate (something your Golden West dealer will explain to you with the aid of a Golden West rail chart).

Slate Playfield

Golden West quality control on slate surpasses the industry standard. We use premium quality slate, diamond honed. What this means to you is that your slate will be perfectly smooth and level, to assure you your pool table will play level. each piece of slate is checked for level and smoothness. The slate is then checked for bolt-hole locations to assure exact attachment to your table frame. A solid wood slate liner is then attached to the slate. A solid wood slate liner serves a few purposes: it assures quiet play on your table, keeps the slate free from vibration and stress and also assures a clean cloth installation.

Golden West uses a 3 piece, oversized, 1 inch thick, diamond honed on both sides slate.

All slate liners are solid wood, we do not use any particle or chip board.

the rail bolts fasten the rail directly against the slate and hardware allowing the slate to make contact with the rail bolts.

Frames

Golden West tables are constructed of solid, kiln-dried hardwood. We use all Northern Red Oak, Alder, Pennsylvania Cherry, maple and Pine. We use eco-friendly Honduran Mahogany. Golden West is environmentally responsible.

Interior Frame Construction

Corner frame braces and leg supports as well as 2" x 8" hardwood slate supports, which put together the strongest construction in the industry today. How do the legs attach to the frame of the table? Other manufacturers use a 3/4" plywood plate with a small dado to hold it in place. Golden West builds a structural masterpiece, a 1-3/8" x 8" x 10" thick corner support to double support the corners for the strongest frame in the industry today.

Hardwood

Golden West selects hardwood that is premium, kiln-dried hardwood. Golden West hardwood resists warping and will ensure maximum rigidity. Golden West also offers the widest frame displacement for best slate support.

Plywood

We use all North Pacific Lumber, all plywoods used by Golden West are viodless, premium plywoods from local Pacific Northwest lumber companies. Golden West does not use any imported plywoods.

Golden West offers two superior frames at many different price points:

Entry Level Tables 1 1/2 inch thick premium plywood frame.

All Golden West tables (excluding entry level tables) 1 1/2 inch thick solid hardwood frame.

We choose not to offer ash or morante (imported woods) due to the poor finishing qualities of these woods.

Interior Frame Construction

Our corners are engineered to be rock solid, with the 1 3/8 inch thick leg plate fully laminated to form the strongest corner in the business - whose system has a 35 year proven design.

Rails

Golden West Standard Rails are 4 3/4 inch rail width with pearlized round sights, made of all select hardwood. All GW standard rails have K66 full profile gum rubber cushions, with canvas vulcanized to top and back for accurate adhesion and playability. GW Wide Rails - GW wide rails are 5 3/8 inch rail width, standard with GW Pro Sights (a designer diamond shaped ivory phenolic rail sight). K66 full profile rails and cnavas vulcanized to top and back for accurate adhesion and playability. This is where close attention must be paid! Golden West is a pioneer in the development of the 2 piece rail assembly using 8/4 quality hardwood and a sub rail with a hardwood rail cap, which is connected to the slate with a 3/8 four prong 1/2 inch barrel tee nut. This has become a standard in the industry, except the competition will not spend the money needed. They would rather use a 5/16 aluminum 3 prong tee nut and bolt into the wood rather than making the correct connection.

GW finsihes all of our tables in pre-catalyzed, cab acrylic, poly-laquer for the cutting edge of finishing today.

Custom color finishes are available with distressing or ageing, which can be added to any finish. golden West offers many standard finishes on each species of wood offered for your table.

Frame Finish

Is the finish of the pool table satin smooth? Are the ends and edges of the panels smooth to the touch and finished well? Golden West uses a high bred lacquer finish to achieve this.

When you look at the aprons around the pocket area, the Golden West apron looks finished because it is. The apron locks up into the rail to give it a more finished look.
